Live from HIMSS11- Opening Session, Monday, Feb. 21

The opening session of #HIMSS11 is now in progress as HIMSS Board Chair C. Martin Harris, MD, MBA, FHIMSS, presented his perspective on health IT.  He announced record-breaking attendance for the #HIMSS11 conference with 31, 000 attendees…noting that 25 years ago, the conference had 3,000 attendees!

As HIMSS celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and at this conference, Dr. Harris captured the significance of this event. He noted that the combined knowledge and expertise of the 30,000 members of HIMSS provide an opportunity to help lead the transformation of healthcare. ”No other healthcare organization in the world has been thinking about, and working with, this technology as long as we have.”

Opening Keynote Speaker Robert Reich, President Clinton’s former Secretary of Labor and professor at the University of California – Berkeley, is now explaining the relationship between our economy and healthcare costs.  Secretary Reich will answer questions at the end of his presentation.

The opening day of #HIMSS11 is busy with this morning’s keynote and exhibits opening at 11:30 a.m. Stay tuned to the HIMSS Blog and other HIMSS social media outlets…Check out #HIMSS11 tweets on the HIMSS Twitter feed with updates on the conference – today’s keynote and more.
