As students are nearing graduation for the community college and university-based programs funded by ONC, there is no time like the present to begin planning for the next phase in one’s career. 

Yes, landing a job within the healthcare IT industry is important, but, aligning with a membership organization like HIMSS is critically important for nurturing and growing one’s career. 

The HIMSS Professional Development Department is one that focuses on providing exceptional opportunities for its members in education, networking, and advancement opportunities through lifelong learning and engagement. 

And the important emphasis here is on “lifelong learning and engagement.” Having a career in healthcare IT that spans more than 20 years, I learned the value early on in developing relationships and getting involved with HIMSS.
