A Multidisciplinary Tool: Clinical Informatics Insights

How many providers does a patient see in the continuum of care?

The list is long: audiologists, chiropractors, dentists, dietitians, nurses, nurse practitioners, operating room staff, optometrists, paramedics, physicians, pharmacists, physical therapists, psychologists, radiologists, therapists etc. Each of these disciplines has a recognized specialty of informatics or is applying informatics concepts and theories (e.g. evidence based practiced).

We have a unique opportunity within HIMSS activities and stakeholder groups to develop resources and tools to advance the optimal use of IT and management systems for the betterment of healthcare across all healthcare disciplines.

One of the resources that has been developed for a variety of audiences is HIMSS Clinical Informatics Insights, which recently celebrated its 1st year anniversary! HIMSS Clinical Informatics Insights is a provider’s source for timely and comprehensive articles that reflect effective integration of informatics across the continuum of care.

Published the second Monday of every month, this complimentary e-newsletter highlights improvements in clinical quality achieved through the development and support of health IT practices, policies and end-user tools. We feature guest editorials that address hot industry topics and offer direction and best practices; informaticist profiles that describe a clinician’s role in IT planning, implementation, on-going management, evaluation and outcomes; practical tools and resources; and relevant news. Each issue is also themed to ensure all areas of informatics practice are addressed throughout the year.

Today, we are extremely pleased to have developed a clinical informatics electronic newsletter that impacts the informatics communities at HIMSS and appeals to the industry at large.

We have over 2,400 subscribers from the nursing, physician and pharmacist perspectives! Our ultimate goal is to have the newsletter reflective of multiple informatics disciplines.

What other disciplines do you interface with that we should include?
